Use Portfolio Modules with Posts and Other Custom Post Types

Portfolio Posts Pro adds three new modules to your Divi Builder: The product price includes 1 year of updates.

  • Blog Portfolio
  • Filterable Blog
  • Fullwidth Blog

Each of these replaces the default Divi modules that only allow projects to be loaded. Using the new modules provided by our plugin, you will be able to choose from any custom post type in your website. You will also have the lightbox and custom URL features all available within the new modules in the page builder.

Do you love the grid and carousel layout options available in the Divi portfolio modules? Does it frustrate you that those layouts are limited to projects only? NOT ANYMORE. With Portfolio Posts Pro, you can now use the portfolio layouts with any custom post type including:

  • Posts
  • Products
  • Projects
  • Testimonials
  • And lots more!

If it’s a custom post type and properly created, you can use this plugin to display them in the grid and carousel layouts normally reserved for projects. Once the plugin is installed, you’ll have three new modules that will allow you to turn on/off which custom post types you want to use as well as which categories of each you want to display.

Open in Lightbox

Sometimes you don’t want your grid or carousel images to link to the post or project. We’ve added a lightbox option for this very reason. When enabled, clicking on an image will open the image in a lightbox rather than opening the URL of the post. This is a great way to showcase images in a grid or carousel without linking to the posts.

Custom URLs

You can also create a custom URL for each post. When the featured image is clicked, the user will be taken to a URL you set in a custom field instead of opening the URL of the post. To use this feature, simply input the custom field name you would like to use when creating the module. Then in each post, add a custom field with the same name and the value of the URL you would like to redirect to.

Custom Fields

Custom fields can now be displayed in the layout below the post title. Simply add a custom field to any post(s) and turn on the Show Custom Fields option in the module. You can then enter one or more custom field you would like to display and how you want to label the custom field(s). Check out the demo to see an example.

Open in Popup

We’ve added a new popup option to all modules. With the popup option turned on, the post will load inside a popup window on the same page it was clicked.

The product price includes 1 year of updates.

Support is also for one year from date of purchase. Support is then charged at our hourly rate.

    Hi – I am using the DP Filterable Blog here: http://marksudell.com/index.php/new-test/

    I would like the Title Text to come up on the overlay, like on your samples. But when I put the Show Titles in the YES position, it shows up underneath Feature Image and when I put Show Titles in the NO position, it doesn’t show up at all.

    How can I get the Project Titles to show up only on the overlay under the + sign like on your sample page?

    • Mark Sudell

      Hi! Any thoughts on my issue? ; )

      • Mark Sudell

        Would love some help.

    • DiviPlugins

      Hi Mark. Sorry, I completely missed this. By default the title should be on the image above the overlay like the examples. Do you have another plugin installed that might be affecting this? Custom CSS? Can you turn titles on again on that page and I’ll take a look.

  2. Oleg

    Any change to use “Include Tags” option with a CPT?

    • DiviPlugins

      Hi Oleg. If the CPT is using “post_tag” as the tag taxonomy, you can use the include/exclude options in the module. Otherwise you’ll need to use the Custom Query option in the module to include by tag.

  3. court

    Hi. Just wondering how I can get the title or other text to display under the image when it pops up in lightbox format? Thank you!

    • DiviPlugins

      The popup will display the post or custom post type content exactly as it appears when you view the post. If you want to change the layout of the post in the popup, you can edit the post using the Divi Builder and it will display in the popup just like the layout you create in the builder.

  4. Timothy Clark

    I’m curious, would this plugin allow me to open videos in a lightbox? Instead of just an image. I would like to use something like the fullwidth portfolio module to have description text in the overlay, and a video lightbox open after clicking the image.

    • Brad

      Hi Timothy. You would be able to do this if you used the Open posts in popup option and if the post content had an embedded video or video module. The popup option will load whatever is within the post content in a popup window similar to the lightbox. So if you only include a video in your post, that is what will load in the popup.

    Hey Brad,
    I need to make a portfolio carousel for a client. I really like your lightbox feature. It’s basically exactly what the client needs. But I need to add text to it too. So The projects should come up in the carousel and then when clicking on them a lightbox should come up, where I can see the picture (or even a gallery) and more information to the project. Does your plugin provide this features?

    Best Regards
    Vincenz

    • Brad

      Hi Vincenz. You can achieve this using the Popup feature. Once you enable this option, the post content will display in a popup window. You would just place your text and image or gallery in the post content.

  6. Jean-Christophe

    Hello Brad,
    I tried to add a new CPT with several plugins (first with “pods” then with “Custom Post Type UI”) but my CPT isn’t displayed in your module…
    I just see “Post” and “Project”‘…
    Any idea?
    TIA

    • Brad

      Hi Jean-Christophe. CPTs not available in the module are almost always one of two issues: the CPT is not public (not usually the case) or the server is caching your CPTs and categories in the modules settings. Can you try deleting your browser’s cache that you use to log into WP and try again? Please let me know if you continue to have issues.

  7. Isla Sands

    Hi there, I have 4 pre-purchase questions:

    1. Is there a Carousel option to display recent posts?
    2. Is the Grid layout filterable?
    3. Could I use this module to design a grid layout Homepage?
    4. Any problems with in the mobile environment.

    Notes: I have a single column, no sidebar, full width Divi theme. My content is entirely multi-media, mainly image and video content.

    Thanks so much, Isla

    • Brad

      Hi Isla. Yes, yes, yes and no 🙂 The plugin includes 3 modules: one is a regular grid, one is a filterable grid, and the other is a fullwidth carousel/grid. It should work for everything you’re wanting to use it for.

  8. Zoltán

    Hello!

    This is a serious and very urgent problem, pls HELP!

    We use multilingual site with WPML, and your plugin cache something or I don’t know but not working when I switch language, we translate everything (categories, post) and not show the content. pls help me.

    • Brad

      Hi Lindsay. Delete your browser cache and your categories should become available. On some hosts the caching is aggressive and this is necessary when adding new categories. Please let me know if you’re still having issues.

  9. Jure

    Hello
    Does this plugin have the Fullwidth Layout option, like the Divi one? I would prefer my posts to be presented in that way, not in the grid.
    I just need it for the filterable part.

    • Brad

      Hi Jure. It does have a fullwidth layout option, but not for the filterable layout. What you could do is make the filterable grid row fullwidth and reduce the gutter to get the fullwidth effect

  10. Alex Lucas

    Is it possible to have the look of the title popping up on hover in the full-width fullwidth blogs module but not having it full width? I’d love to have it look similar to http://prntscr.com/ev6wm5 and the blog titles pop up on hover.

    • Brad

      Hi Alex. This wouldn’t be easy. It would probably be easier to use the non-fullwidth module and use CSS to re-position the title and only show it on hover. But it would take a lot of custom CSS

  11. Dominic

    Can anyone tell me if this makes it possible to set the order in which filtered posts appear?
    I just need to set a single post as the first/featured listing but that seems to be INCREDIBLY hard to do.

    • Brad

      Hi Dominic. Right now there is currently no way to order the posts other than the default date. But you can download WordPress plugins which change the order of posts and it should apply to layouts created by Portfolio Posts Pro.

  12. Zoltán

    Hello,

    Really good plugin!
    Could you tell me, ha can I implement an “offset” options into the module? In the basic divi blog module has this options.

    Thank you 🙂

    • Brad

      Hi Zoltan. Currently there is no option to offset the query. We are working on adding a handful of additional query options including an offset but until then, unfortunately it’s not possible without editing the plugin.

      • Zoltán

        Thank you for your answer,
        Could you tell me what I need to edit in the plugin? 🙂

  13. Pierre

    Hi.

    the licensing is not really clear for me. As the beginning I read: “The product price includes 1 year of updates.” but in the licensing part I can read: “Updates are for the life of the product.”…
    So, please, what do I have to understand?

    TIA.

    Amicably,

    • Andrew Palmer

      Hi Pierre, thanks for the heads up. The product is subject to its own licensing and our generic licensing did take over for a while. I have now amended it.

  14. Tristan Gardner

    Is this the support forum for this plugin that comes with the purchase? I am looking for some clues as to how I go about changing the order of the posts that are displayed. I am using the “nested pages” plugin within which I have tried to reorder them. I have changed the publishing times and I have changed the page order of this custom post type. None of which have made a difference.

    What method should be picked up by Portfolio Posts Pro to create the order of display?

  15. Carmelo

    Thanks a lot Brad. I will try all your suggestions.

    Superb support!

  16. Carmelo

    Hello there;
    Just bought Portfolio Posts Pro yesterday. I bought it for the FILTERABLE option so that I can create a VIDEO Blog.

    Well, I dont know if I´m missing to do something but the video format posts do not show as they do in normal Blog.

    How can I achieve the the look as in Blog? I could give u access to backend if needed since it´s on maintenance mode at the moment. Hope you can help : )
    Thanks a lot!

  17. Cesar

    Does this plugin also include the ability to use in “pages” too?

    • Brad

      Hi Cesar. It will work “in” pages, yes. However there is no option to load pages. It will load posts, projects, and any other custom post type.

  18. Brad

    Hi Carmelo. The plugin is modeled similar to the default portfolio module and does not currently support video preview in the grid layout (but I am working on adding this feature). For now, you will need to create a featured image for each video post and the plugin will load that image in the grid layout. You can also use a plugin like this that will auto set the featured image based on the video in the post:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/automatic-featured-images-from-videos/

  19. carterangon

    Hello Brad;
    Thanks a lot for info on this situation.

    I have another couple of needs:

    1. Post Feature Image size
    When using this Filterable Module the posts are resized to a more square look and cuts the sides of the feature images.
    How could I adjust this width size?

    2. Number of Posts per row
    In the Divi Blog you get 3 posts per row. Here I´m getting 4 posts per row which makes posts a bit smaller than what I want them to look.
    How could I choose to display 3 posts per page instead of 4?

    3. Gutter between posts
    At the moment there a too much white space in between posts.
    How could I decrease this space?

    Thanks a lot for being there and your help!! : )

  20. Brad

    1. If you follow this tutorial, you can change the images to portrait, square, landscape, etc: http://www.eleganttweaks.com/divi/changing-portfolio-blog-module-thumbnail-sizes/. You’ll still be restricted on the size displayed based on the width of the columns.

    2. Depending on which module you’re using, you could do something like this:
    #your-section-ID .et_pb_portfolio_item.et_pb_grid_item {
    width: 30%;
    margin: 0 5% 5.5% 0;
    }

    #your-section-ID .et_pb_portfolio_item.et_pb_grid_item:nth-child(3n) {
    margin-right: 0;
    }

    3. You can adjust this using the margin in the CSS above. If you make the gutters smaller you would decrease the margin % and add it to the width.
